Do I need Teflon tape on AN to NPT fittings?
Apply thread sealant to the NPT end only — never to the AN flare. On the AN side, the 37° metal-to-metal flare creates the seal. Adding sealant to the flare will prevent it from seating correctly and may cause a leak.
What size AN to NPT do I need for a turbo oil feed?
The most common turbo oil feed port is 1/4″ NPT or 3/8″ NPT. Use -4AN to 1/8 NPT or -4AN to 1/4 NPT for oil feeds (sufficient for most oil pressure levels), and -8AN to 1/2 NPT or -10AN to 1/2 NPT for oil returns where gravity flow and minimising backpressure are critical.
Aluminum vs stainless AN to NPT fittings?
Aluminum is adequate for fuel, coolant, and oil applications away from direct heat. Use stainless fittings within 12 inches of the turbocharger, anywhere near the exhaust manifold, and for water/methanol injection systems where the fittings see thermal cycling.
